Senior/Lead Data Engineer

We are looking to hire Senior/Lead Data Engineer to join our team at Fourth! As a Senior/Lead Data Engineer on our newly formed Enterprise Data & Intelligence team, you will own the end-to-end design, implementation, and strategic direction of our data platform. You’ll build and optimize the pipelines and models that power our single source of truth, and partner with different stakeholders from the business. Your work will enable FP&A, Commercial, Product, and AI teams to make data-driven decisions at scale.
Depending on the leadership experience and potential demonstrated, this role is likely to include line management responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Team Management
- Define and drive the ED&I data infrastructure strategy, standards, and roadmap.
- Line-manage the Analytics Solution Lead: mentor, set priorities, and ensure value delivery.
Data Platform Architecture & Engineering
- Architect, build, and optimize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines (batch and near-real-time) on Azure Data Cloud Platform (e.g., Data Lake, Microsoft Fabric, Power Apps).
- Design, document, and maintain robust data models to support BI reporting and ML/AI use cases
- Partner with our Engineering's Data Engineering team to align on tooling and best practices.
Data Quality, Monitoring & Governance
- Implement necessary mechanisms to ensure reliability (i.e. automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring (SLAs, alerts))
- Define and enforce data governance standards—lineage, metadata, and quality controls.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Analysts, BI Developers, Data Scientists and business partners to translate requirements into production data solutions.
- Provide technical guidance on data readiness for machine learning and analytics projects.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate emerging data engineering patterns and technologies; drive DataOps maturity.
- Experiment with AI-driven data engineering tools (e.g., generative-AI code assistants, automated data profiling, smart pipeline generation) to accelerate development.
- Champion performance tuning, cost optimization, and operational excellence across the data platform.
Requirements:
- 5+ years in data engineering or a related role, with proven leadership of mid-sizedteams or projects
- Expert SQL and proficiency in PySpark
- Hands-on with cloud data services and orchestration tools (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, etc.)
- Strong track record designing and building end-to-end scalable data solutions (ETL/ELT pipelines, data models, ML/AI data readiness, security & privacy and data distribution)
- Understanding of CI/CD practices in data engineering that enable automation, reliability, and scalability — including version control, testing, etc. (e.g., Git, Terraform or equivalent)
- Demonstrated ability to partner with business and technical stakeholders.
- Excellent documentation and presentation skills, translating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to think strategically.
- Proactive, agile, and capable of thriving in high-pressure environments is critical.
- Ambitious and committed to driving innovation and AI adoption.
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in real-time or streaming data architectures.
- Background in supporting AI/ML workflows (feature pipelines, model deployment).
- Familiarity with Power BI
- Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) to enhance productivity inday-to-day tasks and data engineering tasks
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field.
